Options leadership update

A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker

Dear Options families,

I want to share a leadership update with you. During a staff meeting today, we announced that Katie Jones has been selected as the new principal of Options High School.

Ms. Jones was hired as a teacher at Squalicum High School in 2012. Prior to that, she had taught at Ferndale High School from 2001-2005 and Windward High School from 2005-2011. While at Windward, she served on the Alternative High School Leadership Team. In 2013, Ms. Jones became the dean of students at Squalicum and in 2016 was hired as assistant principal.

Ms. Jones has a bachelor’s degree from Willamette University and a master’s degree in education from Western Washington University. She earned her administrative certificate from WWU in 2017.

While at Squalicum, Ms. Jones has been the Advanced Placement coordinator, GEAR UP grant administrator, part of the High School Grading Task Force, and facilitated staff professional development around 5D+/TPEP and restorative practices.

Ms. Jones is a passionate and effective leader who believes that all students can achieve at high levels. She will use her communication and collaboration skills to create the best possible learning environment for students.

Please join me in congratulating Ms. Jones on her new position. We wish all the best for principal Byron Gerard in his new role in Yakima.

Greg Baker
